Now THIS could be a really well-done movie ... I've loved both Max Payne's ... (mods, pls move to "XBox News" if you see fit ...).

Fox turning Remedy and Rockstar's gritty shooter into a proper film noir--no cast or director is yet attached.

It seems like hardly a week has gone by in 2005 without a movie studio scooping up the rights to a video game. To date, the year has seen deals to bring Halo (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/10/news_6127307.html), Hitman (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/15/news_6127535.html), American McGee's Alice (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/21/news_6127919.html), and others to the big screen.

This week, it was Max Payne's turn. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that 20th Century Fox is bankrolling a film version of the gritty third-person shooter from Rockstar Games and Finnish developer Remedy. The studio has inked a deal with the production companies Collision Entertainment and Firm Films to produce the Payne adaptation, which had been previously linked to Dimension Films. Scott Faye (the upcoming The Reaper) and Julie Yorn (Formula 51) will produce the project, which currently has no cast, director, or release date.

Easily one of the most cinematic games of the last few years, Max Payne profiles the titular antihero, a modern-day New York undercover cop whose wife and baby daughter are brutally murdered. If that wasn't bad enough, Payne is also framed for a fellow cop's murder and becomes the subject of a massive manhunt by the police, the Mob, and a shadowy criminal organization. Besides sporting John Woo-style action and Matrix-esque bullet-time effects, the game also borrowed heavily from graphic novels, even using comic book-style storyboards in lieu of cutscenes.

I enjoyed both games quite a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing this movie as long as it stays gritty.

i watched the movie. I am sad to say they changed and twisted the plot a bit. If you were a die hard fan of the games, then you will be a little disappointed like I was. It didn't capture that truly dark tone of the game. Mark Wahlberg didn't do bad as an actor, but is nothing like the Max Payne we saw in the game. Mila Kunis is no Mona Sax. Wasn't Det. Jim Bravura and older white guy? SO why is the role being played by Ludacris?
The basic "looking for who killed my wife and baby" stays the same, but things aren't the way I remember them. Oh, and I won't spoil the ending, but that was no ending. It didn't end that way. There was morr to it. There was much more. In my opinion, they never finished the story of Max Payne. It would seem like they would have to do May Payne 1.5 before making a Max Payne 2.
Sorry, but the plot was changed a little too much for my liking. For anyone not familar with the game, then it would be an entertaining rental. I will rent the upcoming DVD with the "R" rated version of the movie, but it still isn't Max Payne.

I thought the first game was really cool and kinda creepy. I don't have high hopes for the film. At least Uwe Boll didn't direct it.

The film was TERRIBLE, I saw it opening weekend and I can't believe how stinky it was. I won't even rent this on DVD when it comes out it was so crappy.
