View Full Version : LAG Pollyanna (Secret Santa)

OK. I know it's early, but I've been tossing around the idea of a LAG Pollyanna in my head. I like everybody here, but I sure as hell ain't buying you all a holiday gift. But, I like the idea of buying a decent one for one of you and setting up a Pollyanna.
Now if you say it's a bad idea, then I say Bah-Hum-Bug don't be scrooge. We could put a limit on the amount say $20 or something or whatever. I'd be willing to set it up and match people up. All you need to do is post saying you are interested in participating. I'll put the names in a hat and viola we'll end up with a nice pairing of Laggers. I just don't want Tower to be my Pollyanna partner because he's a cheap bastard.
MODS: If this idea proves popular, which I hope it will, perhaps it can be made into a sticky.

Yes, a Pollyanna is another name for Secret Santa. You buy a gift for someone and they buy one for you. That way a group of people (like LAG, how convenient) can give gifts to each other for the Holidays without breaking the bank.
Here's an example:
Knicker's Pollyanna is Aim therefore Aim's is Knicker.
Knicker would get Aim a gift and Aim would get Knicker a gift but neither would know who their Pollyanna was until they got their gift. Partners are selected randomly. Typically you submit a list of things you would like to get in the price range we determined. i.e. 1. A CD, 2. A DVD 3. A New Toyota Truck. Then the person who has you has an idea of what you would like.
I will coordinate getting the lists and names and partnering people up (Everyone will have me. ha!)
It's fun, it's cheap and it's a good way to spend Holiday cheer.

11-03-2004, 09:53 AM
If we do this, we'll need to submit our addresses to the "host" so that we won't be letting the cat out of the bag.
Zero - Reese, I need your address.
Reese - Why?
Zero - No reason, I'm just curious.
Reese - Are you my secret santa?
Zero - Ummm... what makes you ask that?

As far as the address issue, everyone who wants to be "in" should submit their address to a central person and that person can dole out the correct address to the correct person. Just an idea.

Sorry Aim my example was seriously flawed. Thanks for clearing that up. The partnering would not be a straight reverse. It will be random. It will just have to be even so everyone ends up with a partner. Or of course we can just leave you out.

When I posted that the music was a riot, I had only listened to the first (which is a parody). The compilation is actually a well-thought-out, eclectic mix of blues, croon, and other Christmas music. Listened to part of it on the way in this morning - Satchmo, BB King, Bing, Deano, Burl - I'm only just beginning.

I gotta tell y'all - whoever my secret santa was showed me how to do it.
I got it during the week leading up to Christmas.
It was in a box full of pink packing peanuts. Not sure if/why that's relevant.
There were two ziplocks of yummy Christmas candy.
There were two gifts that a more confident person would assume were gags - a package of adult diapers and a pop-up box of personal wipes. I kinda liked em - they're really soft on my, er . . .
There was the aforementioned music compilation which, without a huge cash outlay, demonstrates thought and consideration.
There was a third gag gift which I happen to love - a discount-store dvd of an old John Wayne black and white classic (I'm at work, or I'd include the title).
And the intended gift, a copy of Outlaw Golf, which I don't have and which I can't wait to try out.
Again, not to belabor the issue, but I was (an am) very impressed. Next year I'll have the standard in Pollyanning raised.
Thanks, Santa.

Floger - I looked everywhere for that disk!
How is it? I've heard good things about it, but couldn't find a copy.

Washington, and being the detective that I am I have a pretty good idea that my Secret Santa is Moe http://lagxbl.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif.

Hey, it coulda happened that way. Sure it could have been, but who has enough years of experience to know that the way to a womans heart is chocolate? I believe that comes with age ;-)
PS... who's real name is Clayton?

I had an issue with my order from Amazon through another seller, so I let my person know. The thing I got was backordered, but they never told me. Bastards.

Glad you liked it, Rusty. ;-) Reese told me you wanted a Mustang, but the real-deal was a little out of my secret santa price-range. I thought it was cool how detailed & to-scale all the little parts on the diecast were, though. Maybe if you feed it a proper diet & give it a little TLC, it will grow up into a big Mustang....
As for the warm feeling it gave you inside. Ahh, that is so sweet! However, are you sure it was not just indigestion or something? I've had people tell me that before and then it turned out to just be something spicy they ate the night before....

I think I got my Secret Santa gift today. A copy of Spider Man 2 Xbox game. Fool, I don't play Xbox games. PWNED BY PS2 BIATCH!
Really tho. Thanks St. Knickerbocker! Looks like a great game (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/spiderman2). This'll be perfect for play with my 3 year old daughter too. For some reason she is completely infatuated with Spiderman. Never seen any of the moveis or anything... but somehow she is all about spiderman. I'm gonna hand her a controller that isn't plugged in and go through some tonight.
