I'm sure you've all heard the hype surrounding this little cheater's wonder. I was wondering if anyone actually used it for a cool purpose:

A few weeks ago I finally beat ATV Quad Racer2 enough to unlock all the tracks and cycles. A few days later, I come in and my 2 year old son has the xbox on, and was pushing every button he could find...randomly... Somehow, the ATV saves got erased. Bummer...

So I go out and buy a memory card to start backing up my games so this doesnt happen again, but I quickly fill it up and have to start "weighing" the importance of a save game. I had heard there was a way to backup to your PC so I look around and find Action Replay, but it's kind of expensive just to make backups of save games....so...I built one. With an Xbox breakaway cable, the end of an old USB cable, a quick download of the AR software, and I was in business.

Now I can make endless backups of save games to my PC so they dont get erased again...how cool is that? Highly recommended to parents with kids who love to punch buttons on the controllers :)

Very cool!

My wife deleted my Links character by accident the other day in a similiar fashion

How about posting detailed instructions? Where does the AR software come from?

Sure...gimme time to get home today and I have the links saved in my favorites for the cable build, drivers, etc. The AR software can be downloaded from:

http://us.codejunkies.com/downloads/ActionReplayXbox_1_20_US.exe

I will get you the rest of the info when I get home. Not only does this make a cool Xbox tool, but also gives you the coolest gamepad ever made to use on your PC :)

Note: You still have to buy a memory card to use this. It transfers the save games from the card to the PC...

Ok, here is the site where I got the wiring and driver information. I can tell you though, it wasnt as simple as plugging the controller in and loading a driver. I had to tweak the install file to find my hardware (usbview showed me what it was looking for) etc, but once it was working, it worked. I actually ended up getting a newer version of the drivers from somewhere else that is listed on that page. Also, check out the keyboard adapter if you dont want to waste a breakaway end on making this. I live in the boonies so didnt want to drive to town to buy a breakaway, so I just wired it into the cable without messing it up so I have the computer and xbox end both on it.

Once I made the cable, loaded the drivers, plugged the controller in with a memory card in it, boom, AR was working like a charm...this site also has great do it yourself fixes for the Xbox if you are willing to try it.
