For all you audiophiles out there who know that a game is not a game without bullets zooming all around you in 5.1... welcome the ButtKicker!

http://www.thebuttkicker.com

The ButtKicker is a small, linear motor, which reacts to an audio signal sent by an amplifier. It is similar to a loudspeaker, but instead of moving a cone, and transferring sound waves through the air, it attaches to seats and floors, and sends low frequency sound directly into the listener's body. The effect is amazing.

 That video was too damned funny!!!
First she's giddy with anticipation...
Then noticably surprised
Then she starts downplaying the whole thing but you can see the gears in her head are just turning.... that was either really hilarious or I need to update my "secret" dvd collection....
Favorite quote: "I wonder if it could be used for (uncomfortable pause) motion rides"

Good read, Cosmic - you could see her really giving this thing some serious thought all of a sudden!
I'm intrigued - but $400 plus amp each might just price it out of the per-chair per-player gamer use.

She's cute though.

I don't think you need one in every Chair WM. I think you could put this ting in a central location and everybody could get the effect. Under a couch perhaps. Then you could get several ladies on the couch... 8)

Well, my oldest daughter thought it would be a good idea to turn the volume on my surround setup to the absolute max yesterday. It wasn't. I think she completely fried my sub. The other speakers seem OK I think...

I'll eventually need a new sub. I think it was going bad anyways. It was a pretty cheapo unit as I remember.

I love my surround sound and I usually play late at night when kiddies are sleeping. As a direct result I always have to turn the volume down some so as not to wake them up. The sub has always been the one thing that really shakes the house and produces the most noise (that might stir them out of bed), so I'm looking once again at the old ButtKicker. I found it here (http://www.antonline.com/p_BUTTKICKER-LFE-CN_284367.htm) for only $175! It'd mount perfectly right under our loveseat recliner.

I wonder how good movies and games really are with a sub you can't hear, but instead only feel? Hmm...

I probably just do nothing for the time being and live without a sub but man does that .1 do whole lot! I miss it already.

I researched these things when I was shopping for home theater furniture. You can buy them preinstalled. After scanning several AV nerd forums, I found out that many people actually find these very annoying after the novelty wears off. They apparently also make some people nauseous. I decided against buying one and would recommend trying one out in a store first (I never found one to try out but wasn't looking that hard, either). That video is funny, though...;-)

Thanks for the comments Maverick. If you decide to buy one and wind up liking it, let me know... I'd probably be willing to take a chance on one of these if some of the folks here act as guinea pigs for them and don't hurl...+o(

my father-in-law has his store where he sells dishnetwork, hometheater systems, car audio and video and other stuff. Well we have a show room with 3 different surround systems and two of those have the Buttkicker hooked up to it and so i took my 360 to it and OMFG it was pretty cool.If your really looking into getting one it would be worth it.

I need to go try it out somewhere. It's the same cost as a new sub so it's not out of the ballpark or anything. Hmm...
